One of my favorite books of all time is Secrets of The Millionaire Mind By T. Harv Eker.
In this book he States that it doesn’t matter how talented you are or how amazing your background is, if you don’t fix your mindset around money you can not be successful. What he States is that we all have a blueprint about money that was created throughout our childhood. That blueprint in large part determines how we view and manage money. Our blueprint was typically influenced by our parents, teachers and other influential people in our life like pastors and coaches. He says there are 3 main components that make up our money blueprint.
What was said to you about money growing up?
Have you heard sayings like:
“Money is the root of all evil”
“Rich people are greedy”
“Money isn’t everything”
Well those sayings typically trained you to repel money and perceive it in a negative manner.
In order to reprogram our blueprint we need to create new sayings about money so we can attract instead of repel it.
Typically we copy what we see from our parents, teachers and other people who influenced us growing up. So if we didn’t have the right examples showing us how to manage money then we create the wrong habits. The best practice is to start modeling after people who are successful. Pick up books and adopt mentors who are millionaires and who are great with money so you can model their habits.
3. Specific Incidents
The incidents that we see growing up create a large impression on our view of money.
For instance in the book Secrets of The Millionaire Mind T. Harv shares how his wife’s money blueprint was created.
Any time she heard the ice cream truck pass by her house she would run and tell her mom that she wanted an Ice Cream. Each time her mother would tell her that her Dad is a one who has the money go ask him. Growing up she assumed that men always had the money and women were to just stay-at-home and take care of the household. That specific incident shaped her blueprint about money.
