In business tracking your numbers leads to results and growth. The same concept applies to Social Media. Understanding Key metrics can help you adjust when your content is off course or double down when the content seems to be working. Many successful social media marketers became successful through trail and error. Testing content checking their numbers and reevaluating until they found the right way.
What You Should Be Tracking?
- Engagement measures the public shares, likes and comments for an online business’ social media efforts. Engagement has historically been a common metric for evaluating social media performance but doesn’t necessarily translate to sales.
- Impressions measure the total number of times users saw your post or story.
- Reach is a media analytics metric that refers to the number of users who have come across a particular content on a social platform
- ROI (Return on Investment) measures the gain or loss generated on an investment relative to the amount of money or time invested.
Resources and Tools
One tool that can be used to track Analytics on social media is Facebook Insights. Facebook Insights has graphs charts and historical data tracking various metrics such as page likes, engagement, impressions, reach, followers, video views etc. Tools like Facebook Insight make it easy to look at your performance to better plan a good marketing strategy. Facebook Insights only works with a Business page on Facebook but here is a simple trick I use to track data on my personal page.
Step 1: Post all content you want tracked to your business page.
Step 2: Share post on your personal page
Step 3: Insights and Data will appear for both Business and Personal
